Work At Home Job – 7 Survival Tips Before Starting A New Job by S McIntyre
Congratulations! You’ve found a work at home job. It’s very exciting news and you should be really proud of yourself. Do the happy dance and get it all out of your system now before you sit down and let it sink in that you’re going to be working from home. It’s an exciting and stressful time, but here are seven helpful tips on what you should do when you get a new work at home job to make things easier for you.
1. Make sure you have someone who can look after your child when you’re working. You can’t work with a child sitting on your lap or beside you especially if they can’t be quiet. It’s not a good idea anyways to have them in the same room as you when you’re just starting your new job.
2. Study any training materials, manuals or tutorials before you begin your job. It may not make a lot of sense, but once you start working, seeing and doing it, it will make a bit more sense. Take this time also to read up, understand and review the company’s guidelines and policies.
3. Attend any online group chats or online training sessions and be on time or arrive a bit early. Bring a notebook and pen so you can take notes. If there is training material, then you can compare your notes to the manual. You can also refer to your notes if you can while you’re on the job.
4. Always ask questions if you’re unsure about anything. Don’t stay silent in group chats or during the online training sessions. If you can’t ask your questions during the training sessions, then make a note and ask later. Ask for help if you need it and get tips from your co-workers or from your supervisor.
5. Accept constructive criticism and learn from it. It hurts to be judged, but listen to what’s being said and then fix the problem. They are only helping you become a better worker.
6. Have a positive attitude and don’t get discouraged. You can’t compare yourself to anyone else so don’t feel that you’re working too slow, you’re not learning quick enough or you’re not taking enough calls and so on. You will have awful days, especially the first few days or the first week when you’re still learning. Seek support and get tips from your seasoned co-workers as they have been in your shoes before. You can’t get worse; you will only improve each day.
7. Take your time learning each thing properly. It’s hard to break a wrong bad habit. The longer you keep at it, the faster and better you will get.
